After graduating from high school in India, she returned to the States, attending college and graduating from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She met her husband, Don, in Minneapolis, and after they married, Don graduated from the University of Minnesota and then went to work as a petroleum engineer for Phillips Petroleum Company.
