He completed his medical training in Mysore, India, and was awarded both the United Nations and Common Wealth Scholarship during his undergraduate training. He returned to South Africa and worked in various hospitals and was in general practice before he decided to specialize in dermatology and qualified as a specialist dermatologist in 2004.
