He is professor emeritus of the Guidance and Counseling Department at one of the City Colleges of Chicago. Prentiss is an involved church member in Chicago, Illinois. He is a member of the American Counseling Association, past co facilitator with Brothers United Together, the past proud cofounder of two black book/media groups, a past member of a research group at the Howard Brown Clinic, and NEST.
