He graduated from Lee Senior High School in 1988. After high school, he served in the United States Army for four years and the Arkansas Army National Guard for over four years. In 1996, he graduated from East Arkansas Community College in Forrest City, Arkansas, with a degree in criminal justice. He has worked in the field of corrections, on the state and federal levels, for over twenty years. In 2010, he was named a living legend in his hometown by the Lee County Revitalization Initiative.
