Nom de plume came about when another poet friend couldn't pronounce his name and just called him Alain, which stuck, and Gracio is a letter play on his last name. His father moved the family to Nicaragua in 1972 where the author accumulated the bulk of his enduring lifetime memories and experiences. He started writing poetry and prose when he was 9 years old nursing a infected leg that kept him bedridden for a couple of months. His first major influences were the great modernist Nicaraguan poet Ruben Dario, and some other local Nicaraguan poets and writers. Alain Gracio moved back to California in 1980. Soon after graduating from High School he joined the U.S army, where he traveled all over the United States, giving according to him the second best education of his life. The first one being his 6 years he spent living in Nicaragua during the tumultuous Civil War that engulfed the country and experiencing stress and trauma of war for a lifetime. His other major influences include William Shakespeare, Walt Whitman, Robert Frost, and the Great one Rainer Maria Rilke. Alain Gracio currently makes his home in San Jose, California, with his wife Leslie and 10-year-old son Jared. Alain is currently attending college pursuing his lifelong goal of an English Degree and is currently working on a novel and two other poetry books.vizualizați mai puține
