He is a great-great-great grandson of Benjamin Lightbourne/Lightburn. He received a B.S and an M.S. degree in engineering from the University of Colorado and University of California at Los Angeles, respectively. Except for seven years as a professor of Computer Science at the State University of New York, he spent his entire professional career as an engineer. He retired in 1999 after 23 years as a systems engineer with Lockheed Martin.
