His interests include rare canine genetics, coat color genetics, conservation of rare livestock breeds, and reproductive and diagnostic philosophy. He raises Karakachan livestock guardian dogs and Myotonic goats at Beechkeld Farm in Virginia.
He serves as technical program director for The Livestock Conservancy.
