He was born and grew up in South Africa, where he met his wife Myfanwy. The two of them moved to live in Britain shortly after, and settled in Wales. Jeff lives there still, in a fine two-storey house that he and Myfanwy built together. He has two sons, Oliver and Rowan, who live in Bristol and in China respectively. Jeff divides his time between making repairs to the house, spending time with friends, spending time with his cat Sophie, and writing.
