Near the end of the movie, the band leader/songwriter, portrayed by Robert Townsend, makes a statement, which before then, actually was my catalyst for writing, the precursor to most thought provoking insight, the foundation of my fledgling flight on the wings of life. I won't quote here, however, the statement, simply put, makes the assertion that to be a great writer, one must suffer.
At the root of all my poetic renderings, therein lies sufferage, deception, lost love and depressive sadness. But in the midst of all this, resides God. He makes the unbearable bearable, the festive most decidedly joyous and the hopeless hopeful. I have been and continue to be the recepient of God's unconditional love and care. It has been a journey assuredly heartfelt and one that I could only traverse, as we all have a predistination which cannot and should not be altered.
I was born in Orange, TX, the ninth child of Sylvester and Dorothy Marks, products of Jeanerette, LA. sugarcane farming. My father had a sixth grade education and my mother had only a third education. My mother, although unschooled, was a woman of great insight, had a clear and sound mind, a stern yet loving demeanor and with an infectious love of God. Through my writing, she yet lives.
I am the father of four girls, Kiriosha, Iris, Alexis and Angel. The grandfather of five girls and one boy. I have been a newspaper reporter, Spanish teacher, school administrator, private business owner and continue to be a work of God's in the process of living life spiritually.vizualizați mai puține
