ALFRED B. STANFORD (1900-1985) was publisher of the Milford Citizen and a former vice president of the New York Herald Tribune.

Mr. Stanford, formerly the head of the Bureau of Advertising of the American Newspaper Publishers Association in the 1950, acquired the Milford Citizen in its infancy stages and built it up to a 6-days-a-week publication winning numerous awards for editorial excellence.
Following retirement, Mr. Stanford wrote a popular column for the Sunday edition of the Citizen. He died in 1985 aged 84.
SAMUEL ELIOT MORISON, Rear Admiral, United States Naval Reserve (1887-1976) was an American historian noted for his works of maritime history that were both authoritative and highly readable. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1912, and taught history at the university for 40 years.
