I met my first unit of assignment "down range" in Kuwait. A few months into the deployment, I was sent to the Iraq as a Platoon Leader for 30 Soldiers and 80 civilians that supported communications operations for a prison at Camp Bucca and Liason Officers for British operations at the Basrah Air Base.
My second tour to Iraq was spent on the Iranian border at a land port of entry as the Police Operations Officer. I trained Iraqi personnel on passport / immigration operations, customs operations and overall security operations for the port.
I served as the Military Police Detachment Commander at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. My Soldiers supported both Army Police Stations on Oahu. I also controlled the largest Military Working Dog kennel on the Pacific Rim and the only Army Special Reaction Team (SWAT) on the entire island.
All of my leadership experiences and observations led to the publication of this book. Its my hope that the stories within these pages will energize your critical thinking abilities and cause you to reflect on what you would do as a leader in these situations. I am not posing this book as the right answers, just how I handled them. You will either agree, disagree or find yourself wondering what you would do. Any of these three responses will start the critical thinking process and solidify your abilities to handle your own unique situations.
I am currently teaching Army ROTC at the University of Texas in Austin, instructing the freshman class. My job allows me to interact and mold young leaders before they enter the military, which is an amazing yet humbling experience.
Im married to an amazing woman, Erin and have wonderful kids in my life.
