He studied writing and drama, as well as computers, while attending college at Bob Jones University. It was through the use of drama that Chel & Riley first became a reality. Over 10 years ago, in an effort to develop something new and fresh for Vacation Bible School, Matthew created the characters of Chel & Riley. Their adventures were used to connect the VBS materials with the kids and act as a continuing thread so that the children would return each night to hear what happened next. It was after the second adventure that he decided that the adventure might even make an exciting youth novel. Chel & Riley have played out many adventures so far over the last 10 years at Matthew's home church in Morgantown, Indiana.
