He chaired the working group on Geomorphosites of the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG) from 2001 to 2013, and has been president of the Working Group on Geosites of the Swiss Academy of Sciences since 2006. He is a member of the Executive Committee of IAG and Honorary Professor of the University of Bucharest (Romania).
