We were free to wander and explore miles of open land. Our boundaries extended only to the limits of the wilds of our imaginations.
The first three years of my high school education were spent in Wisconsin. In my senior year I traveled the roads of America with over 100 others from throughout the globe, studying with "Up With People!" High School. It was a professional musical production of young people presenting a positive message of hope within a troubled world.
Following graduation, I lived in various cities across the U.S., holding a variety of jobs, later sometimes two or three at a time while attending college as a single mom. As life and I evolved, I finally found my niche and passion. Over the last 40 years I have worked within the criminal justice system as an investigator and a peace officer. At the pinnacle of my career, I worked with a network of investigators in performing risk assessment and counter-terrorism investigations for a three letter agency of the federal government.
In 2007, the diagnosis of a late staged, Lynch syndrome cancer changed my life. My husband and I founded Lynch Syndrome International, a global, nonprofit organization. For five years we donated sixty hours a week in services and kept the organization infused with cash. I served as the CEO and Executive Director. That commitment ended July 1, 2014, when I handed the reins to others to further its development. It heralded the end of the most rewarding 5 years of my life.
I am a wife, a mom, a grandmother, an investigator, and a writer who loves sunshine, reading, singing, playing guitar, birthdays, weddings and get-togethers with friends and family. Blue jeans, baseball caps, rock climbing, driving desolate dirt roads, and exploring the wonders of life are my passions.
Twenty-one-years have passed since I met my husband, Steve. He is warm, fun, and the most terrific guy I ever encountered. He brings joy into my life. We laugh a lot. Dad always said, "If you meet someone who makes you laugh, you better keep him forever."
I took his advice. Steve is my rock. We have laughed through 47 states and several countries. We share our home and lives with our 6-year-old Australian shepherd, Gus, who keeps us running with him!
I also hold immense gratitude to the physicians who make the gift of life possible for me and my family. We are blessed with one of the best medical teams imaginable, who perform annual cancer screening tests and other preventative measures to keep cancer and the effects of it and its treatment at bay. As a result, tumors, growths and polyps are detected early and treated and removed before becoming life threatening and other problems are immediately "headed off".
Written with you in mind, it is my hope you will enjoy My Father's Daughter as much as I enjoyed writing it. We are all so very much alike. We share the same hopes, fears and dreams for ourselves, for our families, and for the future.vizualizați mai puține
