Yes, I keep being given opportunities to help deliver healthcare systems in various places around the world which I just cannot refuse.
I try to look on it as research time, where I might also have new experiences and gain knowledge for my latest in progress book or short story, intermingling it with new cultures and people I come across. Recent time in Singapore, India and Bangkok and now living in Phuket have furnished me with a myriad of colourful images, depicting lifestyles which in many respects are so different from the Western world, whilst people the world over are just people and not so very different.
Without these experiences throughout life my tapestry would be quite threadbare!
I grew up in West Yorkshire in the north of England, an only child with a Polish father and English mother, which meant even as child I was well travelled visiting family in Poland, crossing the various scary communist borders, which existed in those days, before the Berlin Wall came down. Unusual for an only child I also married an only child. My two children therefore (one of each now grown up and left ages ago) have no aunts, uncles or cousins!
Often left to my own devices I was and still am an avid reader and early success in a writing competition at nine and writing my first 'book' at ten spurred me on to bigger and better things culminating in my first self-published 2015. Reading and writing were always encouraged resulting in passions which have never left me. I'm now writing the books I've always dreamed of in the erotic romantic genre though I would at some point like to write a thriller or murder mystery.
Another passion other than my husband of 35 years (I'm an incurable romantic – he is still my number one passion) is food and cooking. My idea of a good might is to invite friends round and host a dinner party serving good food and wine. Italian is my favourite though Indian is a close second. Wine is my favourite tipple, with Sauvignon Blanc as a white wine choice, a good Spanish Rioja for red and no brut sparkling would be turned down! I love dark chocolate and licorice too.
Throughout the years I've had many hobbies and interests and was a tintinnabulator at one point. Sounds rude but really is quite simple: handbell ringer (Hmm maybe one of my character could develop this interest).
I've also trained as a speech and drama teacher, aerobics instructor and I'm qualified in weight management and nutrition including sports nutrition. A 10km runner I'd love to up to a half marathon. That however is proving just a little beyond me here in the heat and humidity and of course age is not exactly on my side. But I have a philosophy – nothing ventured nothing gained. As such I learned to scuba dive a couple of years ago despite hating the water and being dreadfully sea-sick. Motion sickness tablets are a marvellous invention!
At some point when we've finished playing around Asia we'll return to Europe where I hope to be able to pick up my golf clubs and skis again which I do miss particularly when it gets far too hot here.vizualizați mai puține
