An Upstairs/Downstairs of the Arab world, the novel is inspired by the experiences of her her five-year residence in Kuwait between the two Gulf wars.
A former freelance journalist, she's at work on her third novel, The Lost Art of Blue. She lives in the San Francisco Bay area of northern California.
