Finley is an American (US-type) who has lived almost half of his life outside of the United States, first with his family while his father was in the US Navy, then for three years while he himself served in the Navy, and finally as a student and self-professed ‘world-class bum.’ Much of his writing explores the relationship between US culture and the international community.
