He studied creative writing at Columbia University. Dr Sperando lives in Sydney, Australia, where he is a consultant anaesthetist at the Royal Prince Alfred and St George Hospitals. He is also an instructor at the Sydney Medical Skills and Simulation Centre. His first work of fiction, a collection of short stories entitled It Happens To Them Sometimes, was published in 1997.
